Pineda de Mar is located in the middle of the "Costa del Maresme", in between the coastal mountain range and the sea. Distant some 55 km from Barcelona and some 45 km from Girona, Pineda de Mar stands in the centre of a main communications network formed by the N-II road, C-32 Motorway and the railway, the latter with trains departing every 20 minutes. Pineda is a privileged place featuring a long and wide sandy beach of outstanding quality. A wide range of accommodations is available -hotels, apartments and campings - together with bars, terraces and restaurants. The town has a dynamic and charming commercial centre, as well as a pleasant urban layout, with greeny squares (52), groves, water fountains, flowerbeds and lawns. Since Pineda de Mar is located at the gate of the Montnegre Natural Park, its Mediterranean woods are an additional pleasure to those of the sun and the beach. The climate in the area is very mild, and the average temperature fluctuates around 17° C.

As in most of the coastal towns, the economic evolution of Pineda de Mar has prompted an increase in services and commerce at the expense of the traditional agriculture.
